Adapting with Purpose: A Complete Bathroom Conversion for Independent Living
At Keystone Contracts, we’re committed to creating spaces that empower individuals to live with dignity and independence. Our most recent project involved converting a conventional bathroom into a fully accessible wet room, carefully tailored to meet the mobility needs of our client — all while maintaining a sleek, modern finish.
Understanding the Need
Our client faced daily challenges due to restricted mobility, and their existing bathroom setup simply wasn’t fit for purpose.
Key issues included:
- A standard bathtub that was difficult and unsafe to enter and exit.
- Tight layout that limited ease of movement and access to fixtures.
- Inadequate safety features, such as the absence of support bars and proper flooring.
To improve quality of life and promote confidence at home, a full adaptation was required.
Our Approach
We completely reimagined the space, focusing on both accessibility and contemporary design. Every feature was selected to enhance ease of use while creating a bathroom the client could be proud of.
Here’s what our team delivered:
- Complete Rip-Out: Cleared the room to the shell, removing all previous fittings and flooring.
- Advanced Waterproofing: Applied full wet room tanking to prepare for constant moisture.
- Safety Flooring Installation: Fitted durable, slip-resistant vinyl for safer daily use.
- Step-Free Shower Zone: Created a seamless shower area flush with the floor for effortless entry.
- Supportive Fixtures: Added grab rails and a fold-down seat to make bathing safe and comfortable.
- User-Friendly Controls: Installed a thermostatic shower for reliable and safe water temperature.
- Elegant Finishes: Chose crisp tiling and modern fittings to elevate the space aesthetically.
The Outcome
The space is now unrecognizable — not only fully accessible but also open, bright, and stylish. The client can now carry out personal care tasks safely and independently, with the reassurance that the bathroom will meet their needs long into the future.
Making Adaptations Affordable
To support the process, we worked with the client to navigate the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) application. This helped ease the financial burden and ensured the adaptation was delivered without compromise.
